DCBC - Good Folk!

In case you're wondering what DCBC stands for - it is short for Druid City Bicycle Club. Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, it is one of the best cycling clubs in the Southeast. As you know Tuscaloosa is mostly known for being home to The Crimson Tide, but what you might not know is that the city of Tuscaloosa also has an extremely active road cycling and mountain biking community.

I first became aware of the DCBC in the spring of 2006 when I was looking for my very first century ride to do. As I was browsing through the DCBC website, I came across a ride called the North Harbor Hot Hundred. The month of August in Alabama is usually very hot, so I figured this ride would definitely live up to its name. Even so, I signed up for my first century with the DCBC. It turned out to be a successful first century, and yes it was - HOT!

In addition to the Hot Hundred, the DCBC also has metric centuries and full century rides scheduled every month during the year. These rides are all part of the Scorpion Century Series and Bulldog's Half Century/Metric Series in which club members compete for prizes that are awarded at the end of the year to the person with the most total points. It's interesting to note however that in order to be eligible to win, a person has to complete some volunteer activities through out the year. There's also a similar competition for mountain bikers called the Wolf Pack MTB Series. These competitions are not only great fun, but more importantly they seem to generate extra club participation.

If you're ever looking for a fun ride, I highly suggest you check out the DCBC ride calendar. Greg "Bulldog" Fisher does a superb job of keeping their website up-to-date and fresh. Actually I have found that most clubs do an absolutely lousy job of keeping their respective websites current. This is not the case for the DCBC.

They have a great club that is worth checking out. You won't be sorry. They are friendly and fun to ride with. If you would like to know more about them, they can be found on the WWW at http://www.druidcity.org/index.html.
